Trends I’ve seen

While growing up, I have lived through some trends or fads…whatever you want to call them. I will mention the most memorable ones. I enjoyed some …and cringed at others. When I was younger, of course I didn’t have much sense of ‘whats-in-or-whats-out’ (my sister would say I still haven’t developed that sense. idk), so I didn’t really care about what I wore. I just wore the clothes in my closet and appreciated every article of clothing. I am thankful that I am thankful for that.

When I was in junior high school, no one cared about phones, technology, or all those things that make you look old. Kids should be kids. That is why my future kids will live in a closet until they reach high school (maybe not even until college LOL). Anyway, back then life was more about Pokemon cards [we spent so much money on those. smh.], yo-yos [I was the master at yo-yo-ing], flared jeans [they were comfortable and didn’t stop blood circulation], PLAYING OUTSIDE INSTEAD OF ROTTING YOUR BRAIN WITH RADIATION/USELESS INFORMATION, easy-bake ovens [I baked Mc’Donald’s apple pies in there, along with Oreo cakes. good times], limited after-school cartoons and Saturday morning cartoons [Go Arthur and NO cable, haha], using your imagination [siblings and I used to play make-believe games [thank your Mr.Rogers] like house-house,  store-store, or ‘go and save your brother from the shark in the water (our blue carpet) while the rest of us were stranded on an island (the bunk-bed)’ ] , etc… I can go on and on and on. But I won’t.

Those were the good old days…I hope my future kids don’t criticize the past, because (go against it all you want) the past generations will always be better than the ones after it.

Now back to the important things in life:

Dal (Lentils) Keema (ground chicken) with chawal (white Basmati rice)...AND I made that!!!!

Btw, check out this blog’s (Facebook page) latest Facebook status!

and I updated this post as well.

Don’t give up

I look through the glass and beyond.
One side is merry and the other is a sight of which I’m not fond.
Pull back my curiosity and face, from the sill.
I decide to walk to the edge after re-writing my will.
Bare-footed, I reach the top and front of the cliff.
I close my eyes and take a small step.
‘It will be quick, I won’t think of the ground’.
I proceed with my intended act, until I heard the sound.
A yell of anger and concern,
Trys to save me from Hell and burn.
I try to stop myself, but slip and fall.
In hope to survive, I find myself caught midway.
I beg for forgiveness, never to force my body to decay.

Pets don’t like us

Our tenants moved out and found a better roof to live under (yea right, they’re never going to find a better place… Even though they found a place… Uh. Well, its still not going to be better than ours. I think its clear now). That wasn’t the point; the point was that they left their betta-fish in their bathroom. Who leaves a fish unattended and doesn’t tell anyone for two weeks!? In ther bathroom!? Ugh nevermind.

So Fox being the nice guy he is, cleaned the tank (a shame to call it a fish tank since its the kind you win from a carnival) and bought it down to our house. Pets bring untold memories to mind:

– black and white fluffy cat named ‘samantha’ had a few kittens and then ran away… Next morning, while walking to school, we saw her all squish-ered on the road. We were scarred for life.

– two colorful birds, a couple of years after… Idk what happened to them, but I think they died.

– a white big bird we ‘saved’ from the building parking lot. I remember watching it stare at us from its big cage. Next morning I saw it lying there in between garabe bags. It was dead.

– I won a little goldfish from the carnival. I named it something (I don’t remember what though). It was murdered by Fox’s larger goldfish that he won from the carnival. Of course.

– We were upto our twelfth fish in our what-five-siblings-always-wanted-aquarium. My mom fed them cheerios in the middle of the night. The next morning they were dead.

– Good luck left behind betta-fish.

Our mom named it 'Fouzi'....its that blue betta-fish in the corner.

I am trying to give it away to a friend before we are covered with more scars, for the millionth time.

N.O. to Hoarding

In my previous blog, I wrote much about how I disliked and felt nauseous when I saw that show “Hoarders: buried alive”. Thankfully my sister doesn’t watch that anymore. So, last night my sister decided to get rid of the clothes that were not being used, or the ones we never wore or never were going to wear. And I helped by doing the same with the clothes in my closets.

Donation…thats how we do it!

Anyway, it was nice to see some room in my closet. My mom said it feels like the room can breath again. haha idk. My sister was so into the whole ‘getting-rid-of-stuff-moment’ that she also dug out her high school and college notes, old dvds, cds, etc…to recycle. Yes, we care about the environment.

After we were done, there were about five large gift bags full of folded clothes!!! I was going to take a picture but it was too late; there were already off to the Donation bin/place. It felt good to do something like that. We didn’t feel like Hoarders at the end. Only if we can hide a mini spy camera in the pile to see who gets the clothes; that would be cool.

Almost done with getting rid of the clothes, but still have to tackle my moms and brothers closets.

Oh yea, in case you were interested:

Tuna with celery and all that good stuff...for sandwiches

Potatoes and green beans wrapped in Steak ready for the oven.

P.S. Hoarding is not beautiful.
